HISD Cancels Summer Leadership Meeting Due To Edouard

August 4, 2008

The Houston Independent School District has cancelled a “Summer Leadership Institute” conference with 3,000 school administrators and new teachers that had been planned for Tuesday at Reliant Center.
The week-long leadership conference for 1,800 school administrators started Monday and on Tuesday was scheduled to have included training for 1,200 new teachers. But with the approach of Tropical Storm Edouard, school district officials announced to the assembled crowd Monday morning that Tuesday’s session is cancelled.
“Conditions could rapidly deteriorate as this storm approaches and the safest thing for us to do is to cancel the leadership institute for Tuesday,” Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra said.
The conference is expected to resume on Wednesday.
