HISD Board To Vote On Accepting Federal Funding For Teacher Incentive Pay Program
The Houston Independent School District has been awarded a $644,540 grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Education program to support a portion of the district’s innovative teacher performance pay program, the ASPIRE Award.
If approved by the HISD Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 11, part of the funding will support incentive pay for teachers whose students reach and maintain high levels of academic achievement in writing in grades 4, 7, and 11. Teachers at schools that meet the criteria for the award will receive $400 each. All other instructional staff at that campus will receive $200.
The grant will also fund the purchase of a new computer server to manage the growing database, which is used to analyze results and determine incentives. The board meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the board auditorium of the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 W. 18th.
