High Density Apartments Could Mean More Students for West U Elementary
A proposed five-story apartment complex could mean more students at West University Elementary School.
Trammell Crow Residential is looking to develop a new apartment complex called Alexan West University. The complex would replace the Courts at West University at 3810 Law Street.
The proposed development is located in the City of Houston on the other side of Bissonnet from West U.
The proposed plan includes a 2.5 acre site with 231 one bedroom and two bedroom rental apartment units. Of those units, 85 percent would be one bedroom apartments and 15 percent would be two bedrooms.
The Courts at West University were built in 1973 and have 146 apartment rentals. The proposed development would be built on the same footprint with 85 additional units.
One potential impact to more apartment units could be an increase in enrollment at West University Elementary School. However, it is unknown at this time what impact the potential development will have on the school district.
City Manager Michael Ross said the city is looking forward to learning more about the proposed project so they may fully understand any potential impacts to the city.
A public meeting will be held on Dec. 6 at the West University Church of Christ, 3407 Bissonnet Street, at 7 p.m. The goal for the meeting is to allow anyone who may be impacted by the project to have an opportunity to hear from the developer and to ask questions.
