HCC Students Honored By Asian Chamber Of Commerce
Students from Houston Community College were honored recently by the Asian Chamber of Commerce during their monthly luncheon for their academic achievements. In total, five students – Lisu Li, Dung-Hanh Vo, Kim Nguyen, Tai Vu and Kimsu Hoang – received scholarships to continue their education at HCC. The students, each of Asian American descent, were praised for their hard work and determination. Many of them have goals to pursue degrees at the university level and are on that path to success while attending HCC.
“These students exemplify strength of mind,” says Mary Spangler, Chancellor of Houston Community College. “Their continued commitment to their studies will enable them become better citizens and serve our community in the future.”
Many of the students are first generation citizens, as well as first generation college students; some still have their families back in their home countries. According to these students, they do not perceive college as an option, rather a privilege and an honor.
