Gas Prices Drop Again, Now Average $3.81 in West U Area
Average retail gasoline prices in the West U area have fallen another 4.2 cents in the past week, averaging $3.81 per gallon as of yesterday.
The local price compares with a national average that has fallen 4.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.85, according to gasoline price website HoustonGasPrices.com.
Petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said he believes gas prices will continue to decrease for the foreseeable future, but will also fluctuate.
“Average gasoline prices nationally continue to slowly drop. I’ll go on the record and say that come Wednesday, I expect the national average in the U.S. will actually be lower than it was on the same day in 2011,” DeHaan said. “Perhaps looking at the big picture with prices having failed to reach new records so far in 2012, we can restore some gas-sanity in this country. Prices go up and down every year, every season, regardless of who’s name is on the ballot.”
Including the change in gas prices in West U during the past week, prices yesterday were 4.8 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 1.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
The national average has decreased 0.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 1.5 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
