Gas Powered Leaf Blowers On Tonight’s Council Agenda
West U. resident Joe Foster has asked council to review the use of gas powered leaf blowers in the city after he says he missed an emergency phone call from his family due to continuous noise. The item appears on tonight council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
“The use of back pack gasoline-powered leaf blowers in West U is epidemic,” said Foster in an e-mail to council members. “Residents who replied to a city survey several years ago were 85 percent for totally outlawing the use of gasoline-powered leaf blowers within West U.”
In accordance with the Waters Group recommendations, council will also vote on increasing City Secretary Thelma Lenz’s salary from $66,700 to $72,302. The current salary falls below the new range minimum of the compensation study, and the increase was included in the 2009 budget.
A special meeting will be held prior to the regular session, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room.
On the agenda is a proposal allowing front yard maneuvering areas for homes along Buffalo Speedway, which is not currently allowed as Buffalo Speedway is not designated as a major thoroughfare.
Council and staff will also discuss fence-like hedges and emergency side-yard access.
