Friends of West U Parks See Record Attendance at 2012 Park Lovers’ Ball
The Friends of West U Parks saw a record number in attendance at the 2012 Park Lovers’ Ball.
This year’s ball, “A Walk in the Park,” was held at the Four Season Hotel in downtown Houston on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The sold out event accommodated 564 guests. Friends had 10 people on a waiting list for the event and all but two were able to get seats.
“This Park Lovers’ Ball was big money,” Friends Executive Director Donna LaMond said. “It was successful in every conceivable way.”
LaMond said it was really a community event and the chairs, participants and donors all made it successful.
“Everybody was involved,” she said. “It was phenomenal.”
The final numbers for the amount of money raised at the ball have not been finalized, but LaMond said she has a feeling that it will be close to a record breaker, if not a record breaker year.
The ball featured live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing to the tunes of Password.
LaMond said this year’s live auction had twice as many items as years prior and brought in $77,000.
Friends had 165 auction items and all but six sold at the event, she said.
The ball is Friends’ largest annual fundraising initiative to support the renovation, expansion, development and improvement of parks and green spaces in the neighborhood parks of West U.
Event co-chairs were Courtney and Scott Archer and Anne and John Freeman. The 2012 PLB’s Honorary Chairs were Vicki and Dana Grams, who are both on the Friends advisory board.
Planning is already underway for the 2013 Park Lovers’ Ball.
