Friends of West U Parks Appoints Newest Board Member
Friends of West University Place Parks Fund, Inc. is delighted to announce the appointment of Christi Young to the Friends’ Board of Directors. Christi was appointed to the Board at the June 3 West U City Council meeting. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role as Friends’ Website Chair.
Christi and her husband, John, moved to West University Place in 1999. They have two children, J.C (11) and Blake (9). Christi is very excited to be appointed to the Friends Board. As a resident and parent, she recognizes the importance of green space for the neighborhood and is excited about the opportunity to be more involved in the community.
“I am so delighted to have Christi on the Board”, said Friends Executive Director Donna LaMond. “She is a long time parks supporter and we are fortunate that she is willing to put her talents to work for Friends.”
Christi is involved with many organizations in the West U community. She will serve as VP of Communications for West University Elementary School PTO 2013-2014, and she also serves on the Board of the West University Elementary School Foundation. Christi is currently the Webmaster for the West University Little League and Southwest Football League. In 2012 she was honored to be awarded with the West University Little League Volunteer of the Year. Christi is also a member of the Junior League of Houston, serving as chair of Dress for Success Houston. She has also served as a Precinct Chair for several years.
Christi recently started CY Communicate, which offers website consulting and development. In her corporate life, Christi was an E-Commerce Manager at A I M Management Group, Inc., now INVESCO, working with internal retail and institutional clients to develop implement and oversee online strategies.
Christi was born in Louisiana, but has lived most of her life in Texas. She received her B.S. in Journalism with honors from Texas A&M University in 1995.
