Friday is Last Day to File for West U City Council Election
West U residents interested in running for city council in the May 11 general election have until Friday, March 1 at 5 p.m. to file for candidacy.
Registered voters will vote for a mayor and four city council members to serve a two-year-term of office.
Mayor Bob Fry, Mayor Pro Tem Susan Sample, Councilman Ed Heathcott, Councilwoman Joan Johnson and Councilman Dick Yehle have all served one term and have filed for re-election.
West U resident Sonny Brandtner has announced that he intends to run for mayor, but he has not yet filed.
To qualify as a candidate to serve as mayor or a council member, applicants need to be at least 21 years of age, be a resident of and resided in West U for at least 12 months prior to the election and be qualified to vote in the city.
Upon filing, candidates must provide a signed, sworn application to appear on the ballot and a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters recommending the candidacy.
The last day to file is Friday by 5 p.m. The last day to withdraw is Tuesday, March 4 by 5 p.m.
