Former Mayor to be Honored

Former West U Mayor John Neighbors, who has been active as a community leader and volunteer for decades, was honored Monday evening by the West U City Council.

At a 5 p.m. celebration in the community building, Neighbors was recognized for his many years of service to the community with a room in the Senior Services Center being named in his honor.

“He is a great man,” said West U City Manager Michael Ross.

Neighbors served on the city council from 1968 to 1970, and as mayor for the next two years. He has stayed active in the community by serving on various boards and commissions. He is currently co-chair of the Senior Services Advisory Board with Stan McCandless.
