The Friends of West U Parks Fathers and Flashlights fundraising event has raised more than $62,000 for the city’s parks.

Fathers and Flashlights is an annual fundraiser for the Friends of West U Parks, a nonprofit organization that has raised nearly $5 million for the city’s parks. The event sells out every year and continues to bring in more money for Friends. Last year, Friends raised $53,813 for the city’s parks.

The event was held Oct. 6-7 at the West U Little League and Tri-Sports fields, adjacent to the West University Elementary School.

Friends had 250 dads and 491 children camp out for the event.

Kids got to fish with their dads, eat snow cones and star gaze. Other activities included hamster ball, pony rides and painting at Camp Russo, amongst other things.

This year’s event was co-chaired for the second consecutive year by Sara and Chip Edgecomb and Amanda and J.R. McGee.

Plans are already in the works for next year’s campout.
