Eighth Season of Challenger Baseball is a Grand Slam
With the sun smiling brightly on 140 special needs children and their buddies, Challenger Baseball 2012 got underway on Sunday, March 25.
Under the direction of Michael Miller, Dave Freysinger, Leeann Grimes, Ellen Fava, Kristen Leach, Gretchen Mazziotti, and Summer Shaw, the eighth season of Challenger Baseball started with photo day and a donated lunch for all the players and their families.
The “Voice of Challenger” Ross Fava announced the game with the Strake Jesuit Crusaders on hand to help with the festivities. Zachary Stockton gave the opening prayer and Andrew Donnell sang the National Anthem followed by former WULL All-Star Bill Munson’s first pitch to Crusader teammate Brent Diaz.
National Charity League members made goody bags for each Challenger player and hundreds of middle and high school buddies plus coaches and team parents volunteered to make the day a huge success.
Challenger Baseball games will take place each Sunday at 2 p.m. at the West U Little League fields through May 6. Challenger will not play on April 8.
