Drink Wine, Raise Cash For West U Elementary

October 2, 2009

Parents of West U Elementary students on Monday can taste wine while helping raise money for the school.

The school’s auction committee is hosting a wine tasting at 6:30 p.m. at the Houston Wine Merchant, 2646 S. Shepherd Dr. Parents will get a chance to socialize, learn about wine and buy bottles at 15 percent off to take home or donate as auction items.

The tasting is a precursor to a “Wine Pull” fundraiser that will take place Nov. 21 during West U Elementary’s “Code Name: Legacy” auction. Proceeds will benefit the PTO’s 2009/2010 library legacy project and help fund a range of curriculum enrichment programs during the academic year.

The Parent-Teacher Organization is currently collecting wine donations valued at $25 and up — way up, according to wine pull coordinator Autumn Seiler. At the auction, the labels will be covered and partygoers can pay $30 to “pull” a bottle, ranging from great to extraordinary.

The November casino-themed auction at the Westin Galleria will also feature a silent auction, buffet stations, big-board items, a Texas Hold ’Em tournament, trip drawing, dancing and casino fun.
