Dan Aykroyd To Be Grand Marshal At Art Car Parade, Saturday

May 7, 2010

Over 250,000 people are expected to attend the Houston Art Car Parade this Saturday in Allen Parkway.

The Art Car Parade is a free event featuring over 250 “mobile masterpieces.”  Cars will be lining up between Taft and Bagby in downtown Houston and the parade will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Emmy-award winning actor and famed “Blues Brother” Dan Aykroyd is the grand marshal for the event.

Presented by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, the award-winning parade preserves and promotes visionary art environments and provides opportunities to discover and celebrate the artist in everyone.

The first Art Car Parade was in 1988 with a 40 car parade that brought out about 2,000 people. Saturday’s car parade is expected to showcase 250 local, national and international artists that will transform everyday automobiles into one-of-a-kind creations meant to amuse, inspire, enlighten and entertain.

Parade goers should try to arrive early to the event. Spectators can bring their own food and lawn chairs, but dogs are not allowed.
