Crime Report: Witness Helps West U Police Catch Auto Theft Suspect

At 03:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 6600 block of Westchester in reference to a burglary of a motor vehicle in progress. An officer observed the suspect driving a vehicle that matched the description given by a witness. The officer followed the vehicle to the 6400 block of Rutgers and made contact. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for felony theft and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.


Failure to Stop and Give Information 

At 06:19 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 6500 block of Mercer in reference to a report of an accident. The owner of the damaged vehicle stated that an unknown person crashed into it and left the scene.

At 4:50 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 3100 block of Wroxton for an accident. The victim stated that she heard the crash, but was unable to reach the location before the striking vehicle drove away.


Family Violence 

At 9:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Swarthmore in reference to a 911 hang up. Officers arrived and met with the family members. Officers were advised that an argument took place and one of them attempted to call 911. Officers determined that no assault took place. The parties agreed to separate for the night.


Possession of Narcotics 

At 04:41 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle driving near the intersection of Wakeforest and Quenby with no lights. The officer initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver. The driver stated he did not have a license. The officer checked the driver by name and date of birth, and discovered warrants for his arrest. While inventorying the vehicle, officers discovered marijuana. The driver was arrested.
