Crime Report: West U Resident Gets Swindled Out of Large Sum of Money

Fraud        

The criminal investigative division of the City of West University Place Police Department received information via a phone call from a Capital One Bank Fraud Investigator regarding suspicious activity. The investigator advised that the bank had discovered fraudulent financial fraud from a customer of theirs that resided within our jurisdiction and the resident may not be aware of the financial scam. He further advised that the customer was being swindled of his bank financial funds by a scam that is connected with the state of New York. He also advised that a suspect had been identified in New York and during some time of their ongoing investigation, had been detained by New York Police Department. The victim had been swindled into depositing a large amount of funds into accounts being managed by the suspects during the last year.

Burglary of a Habitation 

An officer was dispatched to the 4100 block of Dartmouth on a burglary of habitation that had already occurred. Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim who advised that an unknown person or persons entered his residence without his permission and stole items of value from him. The officer obtained the necessary information to complete the report and provided the victim with the case number assigned to the incident.
