Crime Report: West U Homeowner Confronts Burglars during Break-In

Burglary of habitation

At 9:46 am, officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Belmont in regards to a residential burglary in progress. Officers searched the area for suspects meeting the description provided by dispatch. It was discovered that suspects burglarized the residence and were confronted by the resident that was home. Officers collected the necessary information and evidence to generate a report and no suspects were located at this time.

Warrant Arrest

At 1:43 pm, while on routine patrol, an officer observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the 5300 block of Buffalo Speedway, with a defective brake light. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was discovered that the driver had outstanding warrants out of West University Place. The driver was arrested on those warrants without incident.

Police Information

An officer was dispatched to the 6700 block of Stella Link in regards to suspicious activity occurring in the business parking lot. Marked units were requested and responded to assist officers in the area. A traffic stop was initiated in the 4700 block of Linden on a vehicle observed in the area. Officers made contact with the driver and occupants and they appeared to under the influence of an unknown substance. Officers did not detect an odor of alcoholic beverage and were unable to locate a drug recognition expert for further testing. Subsequently the suspect’s were released without being arrested and given a courtesy transport. The vehicle was towed due to the suspects believed in being too impaired to operate a motor vehicle.

Minor-driving under the influence

At 1:17 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 6700 block of Stella Link with expired registration. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in the 3700 block of Bellaire. Upon contact with the driver and through investigation it was discovered the driver was a minor- driving under the influence. Upon inventory of the vehicle drug paraphernalia was located within the center console. The driver was subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence and drug paraphernalia.
