Crime Report: Police Chase Driver in Stolen Vehicle
At 10:06 am, an officer was dispatched to the Chipotle Restaurant in the 5600 block of Kirby in reference to a scam that had occurred on 1/7/13. The reportee stated an unknown male scammed one of the cashiers for a one hundred dollar bill.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling south bound at a high rate of speed. The officer paced the vehicle at 40 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and contact was made with the driver. The driver had no driver’s license and no insurance. It was also observed the vehicle’s registration had expired and a juvenile was not restrained in a child safety seat system. The driver was placed into custody for no driver’s license; fail to maintain financial responsibility, expired registration and seat belt- child restraint law 0-7 years of age. A verbal warning for speeding was given to the driver.
At 10:04 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 4100 block of Bissonnet. The officer checked the vehicle’s speed with a dash mounted radar unit and clocked its speed at 52 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 4300 block of Bissonnet by activating his emergency lighting equipment and intermittent siren. The driver continue to travel for two blocks before coming to a stop in the 4500 block of Bissonnet , where the driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. It was later discovered the vehicle was confirmed stolen. The driver was later identified and charges are pending for evading and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
