Crime Report: Man Coerced into Paying Money Over the Phone

Warrant Arrest

An officer observed a vehicle without a registration sticker on its windshield while it was equipped with Texas license plates on it traveling westbound in the 4200 block of Bissonnet. The officer then followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the 5700 block of Innsbruck. As the officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle it was discovered that she had multiple outstanding warrants out of The City of West University. The officer confirmed the warrants and afterwards placed the driver in custody without incident. The driver was transported to the West University Place jail facility where she was booked and processed without incident.



At 5:29 pm, an officer was dispatched to the WUPD lobby in regards to a theft that already occurred. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the victim received a phone call from an unknown subject falsely claiming to be an IRS representative. The subject coerced the victim to pay a sum of money, over the phone, or legal actions would be taken against him.
