Council Seeks Applicants For Redevelopment Committee

December 24, 2009

A proverbial hat is being passed for residents to throw in their names if they are interested in having a say in the redevelopment of downtown West University Place.

Last week the West U. City Council decided to allow interested residents to apply for positions on a special committee the city is creating to solicit ideas for the city center redevelopment. The area includes the rows of shops and restaurants lining Edloe Street and University Boulevard.

“I would like to interview people the first week in January,” Councilman Steven Segal told the council on Dec. 14.

Redeveloping the area is one of the main goals the council decided to tackle this term. The council wants to create more favorable regulations because it worries that current rules are so strict they will turn away businesses that may want to redevelop the area.

People interested in applying should contact City Secretary Thelma Lenz at tlenz [at] westu.com.
