Community Health Center Holding Fashion Show And Fundraiser In Medical Center
South Central Houston Community Health Center, a local clinic that offers access to affordable medical care regardless of ability to pay, will hold its first ever Fundraising Dinner and Fashion Show at 7 p.m. Oct. 25th at the Hornberger Center in the Texas Medical Center, 2151 West Holcombe Blvd.
Recording artist Howard Hewett, formerly of the group Shalamar known for songs such as “For the lover in you” and “Second time around,” will perform at the event. Richard Hollis, a local gospel singer, will also perform.
“It is estimated 63 percent of the residents in this area are 200 percent below poverty level,” said Anganette Young, president and CEO of SCHCHC. “The donations we receive from this event will allow us to maintain our high standard of service to the community and ensure that no one seeking medical care is turned away in 2009.”
With so many local residents affected by Ike, SCHCHC has announced every ticket sold to the event will be good for one free medical exam at any of their Houston-area clinics. The ticket holder is free to donate the exam to a member of the community or donate it back to the clinic for use on a patient in need.
Tickets to the event are available to the general public for $50. Contact Tie James at 713-734-4580 to purchase tickets or to make a donation. SCHCHC is a division of the Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC) and is a private, non-profit membership association that represents safety-net health care providers in the state of Texas. All donations are tax-deductible.
