Cohen Hosting Forum On Higher Education Reform
West University Place’s state representative is hosting a forum on Feb. 25 to explore ideas for higher education reform. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Rice School, 7550 Seuss Dr.
According to a statement from Rep. Ellen Cohen’s office, Cohen was flooded with comments from constituents about reforming the state’s top 10 percent rule, which mandates that students who place in the top 10 percent of their classes gain automatic admission to state universities.
The Higher Education Forum will feature Cohen and State Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas), the chair of the Texas House of Representatives Higher Education Committee on which Cohen also serves. Branch will offer an overview of the 81st Legislative Session and discuss the activities assigned to the Higher Education Committee in the coming months.
“I am pleased that Chairman Branch accepted my invitation to address the people of District 134 regarding higher education issues. With 67% of the District holding an associate or bachelor’s degree or higher — compared with 23% statewide — what happens on the Higher Education Committee is obviously important to the constituents I represent,” Cohen said in the statement.
