City to Start Picking Up Christmas Trees Today

December 27, 2011

The City of West U will start picking up and recycling discarded Christmas trees today through Jan. 13.

Trees need to be placed curbside on regular trash days and need to be free of bulbs, lights and strands or any other objects.

Trees that are decorated with ornaments, lights, stands, or any foreign objects will not be accepted for recycling. Trees with foreign objects will be disposed of in a landfill and collected during normal household trash pickup on regularly scheduled trash days.

Christmas Trees that are picked up after Jan. 13 will need to comply with the following standard green waste collection rules:

• Trees need to be cut to 4 foot lengths or less and need to be no greater than 3 inches in diameter, stacked curbside.

•The tree piles need to be small enough to not delay crews from collecting during their normal routes.

• If the piles are large and require a special pickup, a special collection will be assessed (minimum fee is $50).
