Two upcoming Christmas concerts at the University of St. Thomas prove that Thanksgiving is nearly over and it’s time to focus on the next holiday.

On Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. the university’s music department sponsors An Evening of Lessons and Carols. The University Singers ensemble will perform seasonal carols, anthems, motets and readings from the Advent and Christmas narrative.

The free event takes place in the Chapel of St. Basil, 3802 Yoakum, Houston. For more information, contact Monique Dupleich at dupleim [at] stthom.edu.

On Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. the university’s Center for Irish Studies will host A Celtic Christmas with Danny O’Flaherty and Friends. With song, dance and storytelling they will celebrate the Christmas spirit of the Celtic Nations of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Cornwall, Brittany, Galicia and the Isle of Man. The show will tell about unique yuletide customs that evolved over the centuries in the nations of the Celts.

The event is held in Jones Hall at 3910 Yoakum and admission costs $10 for the public and it’s free for students. For more information contact  Lori Gallagher at irishstudies [at] stthom.edu.
