Children’s Museum Offers “Daily Specials” Memorial Day Weekend
The Children’s Museum will open a new exhibit as well as present several one-time events for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. “How People Make Things,” an exhibit based on Mr. Rogers’ Factory Tours, will open this weekend, and is based on exploring manufacturing. Other events are scheduled as follows:
Saturday, May 23: Stop Motion Animation Workshops. Film a short movie using this classic filmmaking process using a webcam and a laptop.
Event Time: 10:30 a.m., 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 24: Spotlight Performance – Tom’s Fun Band.
Event Time: 2 p.m.
Monday, May 25: Memorial Day Movie Mania. Children can use optical illusions to create a simple moving picture about summer plans plus build 3-D glasses and learn how they work. Then, museum-goers can go down to the Inventors Workshop and use computers to create stop-motion animated movie in a process similar to movies like Wallace and Grommit and Coraline, then sit in the Brown Auditorium for a Film Festival.
The museum, 1500 Binz, is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday from noon-6 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $7 per person and $6 for seniors 65+. Children under 1 and Museum Members receive free admission.
