Champion Energy Again Ranks Highest in J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Rankings

August 16, 2012

Champion Energy Services has again ranked highest in customer satisfaction among Texas residential retail electricity providers, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Texas Residential Retail Electric Provider Customer Satisfaction Study released yesterday.

This marks the third consecutive year for Champion Energy to receive the top ranking.

It also made Champion Energy the only retail electric provider in Texas to receive the prestigious award three times in the study’s five-year history.

The J.D. Power and Associates study measures customer satisfaction with retail electric providers in Texas by examining four key factors:

  • Price
  • Billing and Payment
  • Communications
  • Customer Service

Champion Energy’s overall satisfaction score was 756 on a 1,000-point scale, earning the company the highest score amongst its competitors and the highest overall satisfaction score since the study commenced.

Champion Energy’s President and CEO Scott Fordham said the recognition reflected the company’s commitment to its customers.

“The J.D. Power and Associates ranking is a coveted honor, and it reflects the value of Champion Energy’s customer-focused business model,” Fordham said. “Our around-the-clock customer care is structured to address the wide spectrum of needs of the company’s valued customers, and the findings of the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates study reflect Champion Energy’s unwavering dedication to providing exemplary customer care and further solidify the company’s focus on a consistent positive customer experience.”

According to the Public Utility Commission of Texas, approximately 58 percent of the 5.7 million eligible Texas residential customers were served by the non-utility affiliated retail electricity providers as of March 31.

“Since electricity deregulation in Texas in 2002, consumers have become increasingly price sensitive, and they have also become exceptionally rate savvy,” Fordham said. “In the interest of transparency and to our customers’ advantage, Champion Energy avoids short-term teaser rates and tricky gimmicks that often lead to unexpected rate increases. Our focus is on being dependable, consistent and communicative about contract terms and timely renewals, and Champion Energy’s 21-point margin in the price category of the recent J.D. Power and Associates study reflects the significant value of our fixed-rate plan model.”

Houston-based Champion Energy Services is the fastest-growing retail electric provider in the nation and the largest never to have been affiliated with a utility.

Champion Energy currently serves residential, governmental, commercial and industrial customers in deregulated electric energy markets in Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland.
