The Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce Holiday Open House will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the chamber, 6900 S. Rice Ave. Members of the community that participate in the lunch are asked to bring two canned good items for donation to the Christian Community Service Center’s Gethsemane Food Pantry.

Toni Franklin, the new president of the chamber, has released a letter inviting the community to attend the open house, and giving some background on her history with the chamber. The letter reads as follows:

“It is my pleasure to be writing to you as I start my second week with the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce. As many of you know, the Chamber sustained damage due to Hurricane Ike and we have just recently completed the repairs and renovations to the building. I would like to invite you all to our Holiday Open House on Friday, December 5th to see the progress we have made and to meet myself, the staff and our Board of Directors.

I have a long history with this Chamber, starting in 1995 when I first joined the Chamber through many years of serving in almost every capacity, on every committee and then having the honor of serving as the Chairman in 2007. I have enjoyed being involved in the Houston community throughout my life – co-founding the Sharpstown Area Economic Development Association, serving on the board of the Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and active within the Sharpstown Management District, Inter-Ethnic Forum and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. My dedication to community development and helping businesses grow will be a great asset for the Chamber.

As the Chamber approaches its 60th anniversary in 2009, I look forward to working with local businesses, individuals and community leaders to maximize positive business opportunities during this economic crisis. It is during times like these that making lasting relationships within your local community becomes increasingly more important.  Please know that being a Chamber member offers many opportunities to expand your network, learn about new trends in marketing and business development and stay connected with your customers.”
