Challenger Season Ends With Barbeque Prepared By Rotary Volunteers
The West U. Little League Challenger Baseball season ended May 17. During the season, 104 Challenger players took to the fields each Sunday at 2 p.m. with their buddies from neighborhood middle schools and high schools. For the final game, Episcopal High School baseball players assisted and EHS student Anastasia Elliot sang the National Anthem. EHS student athlete Travis Gauntt said the invocation.
The concession stand was staffed by West U. Rotary volunteers and WULL Auxiliary members, as it has been all season. At the conclusion of the games, players, buddies, and their families and fans converged upon the West U. Elementary Cafeteria and multi-purpose room for the Season End Celebration. Challenger sponsor St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church’s youth group helped set-up, decorate, serve and clean up.
Posters designed by J-Serve volunteers decorated the walls and members of the Bnai Brith Youth Organization made the centerpieces. Umpire Randy Bullard coordinated with local Kroger, Randall’s, and Goode Co. for donations, roped in volunteers from West U Rotary, and cooked hundreds of pounds of barbeque.
