October 31, 2012

Challenger Football had a busy week with a game at St. Thomas High School on Thursday, Oct. 25 at halftime of their JV game.  The Eagles Varsity players were the buddies while their JV cheerleaders assisted on the sidelines.

St. Thomas head football coach, Tim Fitzpartick, and AD Mike Netzel assisted along with Director of Campus Ministries, Marty Matulia, who was the sports announcer.  Their spirit store supplied goody bags complete with a STHS T-shirt and spirit stick.  Lisa O’Connor Ashley Stegall organized the event and made it special for all.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, Challengers played at Southwest Football League and Clay Manley was the sports announcer with Corby Martinez and Paul Posoli serving as coaches.  The National anthem was sung by Catherine Craft followed by Ben Monk of Ozone Ministries’ invocation. Challenger player Brian Hale was recognized for his recent gold medal in the men’s 25 meter backstroke and bronze in the 4 by 25 meter mixed relays at the Special Olympics state aquatics meet at Texas A&M and the newly crowned Miss Teen Texas, Caroline Hinze, made a special appearance.  Hinze is a former SFL cheerleader and is a senior at Bellaire HS where she is the cheer captain. She is a member of National Charity League and has volunteered with Challenger for years.

Jerry Built provided lemonade and Ginger Bull cookies and a free shake gift card for all of the Challenger players. Elaine Day, Maynard Holt and Michele Still organized the SFL events, DJ Senega provided the music, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas donated pink & green pom poms in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness month and National Charity League members volunteered at both SFL and STHS games.
