Candidate Packets Now Available for West U City Council Election
Candidates interested in running for West U City Council in the upcoming May 11 general election can pick up application packets starting today.
Registered voters will vote for a mayor and four city council members to serve a two-year-term of office.
Mayor Bob Fry, Mayor Pro Tem Susan Sample, Councilman Ed Heathcott and Councilwoman Joan Johnson have announced that they will run for re-election. Councilman Dick Yehle said it is “probable” that he will run again.
To qualify as a candidate to serve as mayor or a council member, applicants need to be at least 21 years of age, be a resident of and resided in West U for at least 12 months prior to the election and be qualified to vote in the city.
The first day to file is Jan. 30. Upon filing, candidates must provide a signed, sworn application to appear on the ballot and a petition signed by at least 25 qualified voters recommending the candidacy. The last day to file is March 1 by 5 p.m.
The last day to withdrawn from the election is Tuesday, March 4 by 5 p.m.
Applications and accompanying documents can be picked up from City Secretary Thelma Lenz’s office in city hall, 3800 University Blvd.
