SISTER CITY: Phil Nauert elected Bellaire mayor; Pat McLaughlan returning to council

November 8, 2011

The man some have dubbed Bellaire’s “mayor-in-waiting” for the past eight years will finally hold the job come January. Mayor Pro Tem Phil Nauert won the job handily after more than 20 years on Bellaire’s boards, commissions and City Council — and in a comeback, veteran councilman Pat McLaughlan will take Nauert’s council seat. Only about 10 percent of the city’s registered voters cast ballots.

Nauert drew 1,015 votes to city watchdog Robert Riquelmy’s 161. McLaughlan beat Downs, 845 to 322 votes.
