Bellaire Boulevard Traffic Switching Lanes This Weekend
Traffic on Bellaire Boulevard east of Weslayan will move to the newly paved south lanes on Saturday, Sept. 27, and there will likely be a total closure of Weslayan for a short period of time as the contractors begin their work inside West U. city limits. Residents should be prepared for a detour.
City officials say all efforts will be made to keep at least one lane open on West U. streets under construction, but “periodic total closures” will be necessary for short periods of time.
The construction is part of the Bellaire Boulevard mobility and drainage project, a joint effort of the City of West U., the City of Southside Place, the City of Houston, the Harris County Flood Control District and the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
The current schedule for work inside West U. city limits, which is subject to change, is as follows:
- Weslayan Street from Bellaire Boulevard to Riley Street – early September to early November
- Weslayan Street from Riley Street to Marquette Street – early November to end of December
- Riley Street from Weslayan Street to College Avenue – early October to end of November
- College Avenue from Riley Street to University Boulevard – end of October to end of March, 2009
