UPDATE: Victim in West U knife attack is Mexican official

UPDATE: ABC-13 is reporting that a woman attacked by a knife-wielding man in the backyard of her home on Browning Street is a high ranking official in the Mexican Consulate in Houston.

The woman, identified as Claudia Velasco, reportedly suffered wounds to her hands and face from attempting to fight off her attacker, who was said to have leaped the fence in her backyard in the 3900 block of Browning just before 8 this morning.

A 911 call with screams then a hang-up sent West University Place police to a home in the 3900 block of Browning Street just before 8 a.m. today.

Although details are sketchy, a city spokesman said a victim was transported by city paramedics to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and that police arrested a suspect. That person is said to have “a very lengthy criminal history,” including a 20-year prison sentence for armed robbery in 2002.

Although the caller wasn’t able to speak with West U emergency dispatch, enough information was available through the system to allow for the quick response.
