Foundation Announces $250K Facelift for WUES Playground

November 12, 2014

The West University Elementary School Foundation today is launching a capital campaign to raise $250,000 to refurbish one of the city’s most popular parks — the playground at West U Elementary School.
“This project is for both the school and our neighborhood and we are excited to help preserve this valuable community resource,” says Adrienne Vanderbloemen, WUESF Board President.
The front playground at West U Elementary is the most utilized playground in the city, serving more than 1,200 students during school hours. It is also a popular gathering spot for families throughout the week and is a safe place for countless numbers of children before and after sports practices and games held on the campus.westuplay
The playground was installed 12 years ago and now needs repair and refurbishing. In order to continue to be a valuable community resource serving the physical and social needs of local kids, the playground will be overhauled in the summer of 2015.
The project will include installing new flooring for the playground, fixing some of the equipment and adding some new playground pieces.
WUESF is currently seeking corporate sponsors and underwriters.
As soon as the campaign was announced to the public, WUESF began seeking individual sponsorships and donations. The Foundation’s goal is to raise the entire $250,000 by the beginning of May 2015, so that work on the playground can begin as soon as school dismisses for the year.
The WUESF also announced that Cleburne Cafeteria has signed on as the first corporate sponsor of this playground renovation project. Cleburne Cafeteria, a longtime supporter of West U Elementary, also was a major donor when the playground was first constructed in 2002.
The WUESF was founded in 1997, to increase the long-term financial support of West U Elementary School. The purpose of the foundation is to solicit, receive and administer funds for the benefit of academic extra-curricular activities, to maintain and improve the
operating facilities, and to endow the long-term financial benefit of West U Elementary. The Foundation, although completely separate, works closely with the West U PTO to identify and fund projects that would not otherwise happen.
