The city of West University Place Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Independence Day Bike Parade and Pool Party on July 4th. Line up in front of West U Elementary School, 3756 University, at 8:45 a.m. to participate in the parade. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bicycles, tricycles, wagons and strollers.
The Bike Parade begins promptly at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 4 and the parade route will continue west on University, then south on Academy, and finally proceeding west on Byron to Colonial Park Pool.
Afterwards, the festivities will continue from 9:15 a.m. to noon with complimentary admission to the pool. Be sure to take part in the excitement and visit with the caricature artists, face painters, balloon artists, a photo booth and more. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to earn some extra cash during the popular money dive, and be sure to have your camera ready during the annual “Dad’s Belly Flop” contest.
Finally, cool off with a root beer float, and take a dip in the pool for a 4th of July you won’t forget.
West U Rotary will hold their annual BBQ fundraiser benefiting the West U Little League Challenger Program. Tickets are on presale at the West U Recreation Center and Colonial Park Pool for $8. The festivities wrap up at noon, but enjoy a lazy afternoon at the Colonial Park pool until 6 p.m.
On Independence Day, the Recreation Center will be open from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
City offices will be closed on the 4th of July, and there will be no curbside pickup of trash and recyclables. Curbside collection regularly scheduled for Thursday will be picked up Wednesday, July 2. Trash and recyclables regularly scheduled for Friday will be
picked up Thursday, July 3.
