Below are summaries of recent West University Place Police Department activity reports. These summaries are written from the perspective of the arresting (or reporting) police officer. Any arrested persons should be presumed innocent until their case is adjudicated.

04/11/2014

Car Burglary

At 7:57 am, a police officer was dispatched to the 3800 block of University in reference to a burglary of a motor vehicle, which had already occurred. The victim stated an unknown person(s) entered her vehicle without her permission and took several items. The officer arrived to the location at 8:00 am.

Stolen Identity

At 10:40 am, an officer was dispatched to the West University Place Police department in reference to a case of identity theft. Upon the officer’s arrival, the victims stated an unknown person(s) used their personal identifying information to file a fictitious IRS tax return.

Stolen Identity

At 1:19 pm, a police officer was dispatched to 3800 University in reference to an identity theft call. The victim stated an unknown person(s) used his personal information to open several cellular phone lines without his permission. Information was gathered and a report was generated.

04/12/2014

Arrested for Suspended Licence

At 3:38 pm, an officer observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the 5800 block of Buffalo Speedway with an expired motor vehicle inspection certificate. A traffic stop was conducted in the 5200 block of Buffalo Speedway and after further investigation the driver was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid.

Arrested for Suspended Licence 

At 9:02 pm, an officer observed a vehicle travelling southbound in the 6500 block of Buffalo Speedway, with defective equipment, namely no trailer taillights activated as required. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in the 3200 block of Cason. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver was driving with an invalid license. The driver was arrested for the offense.

04/132014

Drunk in Public

Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject knocking on a resident’s front door in the 3300 block of Rice that did not belong there. Officers located the suspect at the corner of Georgetown and Westchester. The suspect was found to be intoxicated and a danger to himself and others. The suspect was booked into the West University Place jail on a charge of public intoxication.

Criminal Mischief

An officer was dispatched to a residence located in the 5400 block of Belmont in regards to a criminal mischief. Upon arrival the officer spoke to the victim who stated that an unknown person(s) smashed one of the window panels located on the door to the residence. It was discovered that the suspect(s) did not make entry into the residence because the door was still intact and the lock to the door was a deadbolt lock which required a key to make entry. Nothing from inside the residence was taken.

04/14/2014

Ticket for Synthetic Marijuana

At 9:43am, officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Milton in regards to a suspicious subject possibly passed out in his vehicle. Upon arrival officers observed the subject’s vehicle in motion traveling eastbound in the 4000 block of Milton. An officer initiated a traffic stop in the 3900 block of Rice. The officers made contact with the driver and found no signs of physical or mental impairment. The driver admitted to be in possession of synthetic marijuana. Officers confiscated the substance and placed it into evidence for a lab analysis. The subject with issued a traffic citation and released at the scene.

Stolen Bicycle

The West University Place Police Department was notified of a theft of a bicycle that occurred in the 2600 block of Werlein. Unknown individuals entered a private residential yard and took an unsecured bicycle from the back yard.

04/15/2014

Stolen Pallets

At 3:02 a.m., while on patrol in the 5400 block of Academy St., an officer observed suspicious activity from the rear of the commercial shopping center, that is occupied by the Randall’s grocery store. A vehicle was behind the Randall’s store where the delivery bays and ramps are located, and proceeded to exit and leave the area with a large amount of pallets stacked high. An officer observed the vehicle proceed to another shopping center across the street and the occupants load a pallet from behind this business. Contact was made and it was determined that the suspects did not have permission from Randall’s to remove the pallets. The suspects were in possession of approximately 37-pallets, and were charged with theft.

Possession of Criminal Tools

At 12:00 pm, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of University Blvd in regards to suspicious vehicle. Dispatch advised they received a 911 call from a person who was being followed from the Wells Fargo Bank in the 5200 block of Kirby. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and conducted an investigation which later discovered the two suspects were following the caller. The two suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of criminal instruments.

Stolen Lumber

At 8:18 pm, Officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Amherst in regard to a report of Theft in progress. The reportee advised that an unknown person was loading up lumber from a construction site, and he did not think the unknown person had permission to do so. Upon arrival in the area officers were able to locate the suspect, and upon further investigation the suspect was arrested for theft.
