West U Celebrates the Fourth of July

July 5, 2013 By:InstantNewsWestu Staff

The City of West U celebrated Independence Day with a bike parade and pool party at Colonial Park Pool on July 4.

Hundreds of residents lined up in front of West U Elementary School with their decorated bikes, wagons and strollers to participate in the parade.

After the parade, festivities continued at the pool with caricature artists, face painters, balloon artists and more. West U Rotary also held their annual BBQ fundraiser benefiting the West U Little League Challenger Program.

West U always had the best Fourth celebration in town. It is much more subdued than in the early days when there were no restrictions, for instance on fireworks. It was definitely not funny and I still cringe when remembering we kids setting off one that shot up in the air and made a loud boom again and again. I have no idea where we got the thing. Every time it boomed, part of the dining room ceiling fell on top of the dining room table. The whole ceiling had to be replaced. I can still see my mother standing at the backdoor of our house.
