The 12U West U Crush placed 4th in the Houston ASA Metro Recreational Championship Tournament held April 20-21 in Spring.
This was the first opportunity for the team to try out their bats against talent outside the West University Softball Association (WUSA) 12U “sophomore” division.
The team played extremely well all weekend, with spectacular batting, fielding, and pitching. After losing their second bracket game to the eventual tournament champions, Crush went on to win three more games, losing to the eventual second-place winner in a hotly contested tiebreaker.
Crush is managed by Grant Harpold, and players participating in the tournament were Allison Clark, Meg Dabney, Bunny Harpold, Delaney Kelly, Mereya Martin, Julia Meyn, Megan Niermeyer, Payton Osborn, Riley Spengeman, Chloe Starr, and Rebecca Zivley.
WUSA, one of the state’s largest girls youth softball associations, began in 1979 and has grown to involve more than 500 girls from ages 4-15. WUSA is an all-volunteer association including a board of directors and woman’s auxiliary.
